Basketball Betting Rules 2023 - How to Bet and Win Online

Betting on basketball in the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) and NBA (National Basketball Association) is a popular activity for sports fans and bettors alike. While the basic principles of betting on basketball are the same for both NCAA and NBA games, there are some differences in the rules and regulations.

NCAA Basketball Betting Rules:

1. Point Spread: In NCAA basketball betting, the point spread is the most common type of bet. This is where you bet on which team will win the game, but also by how many points they will win. The point spread will be listed next to each team’s name, and the number in parentheses is the amount of points they are either favored or underdogs by.

2. Moneyline: Moneyline bets are also available in NCAA basketball betting. This is a straight-up bet on which team will win the game, with no point spread involved. Moneyline odds are based on which team is favored to win the game.

3. Totals: Totals bets, also known as over/under bets, are available in NCAA basketball betting. This is a bet on whether the total number of points scored in the game will be over or under a predetermined number set by the sportsbook.

4. Halftime Betting: Halftime bets are also available in NCAA basketball betting. These bets are made during halftime and are based on the score of the game at that point.

NBA Basketball Betting Rules:

1. Point Spread: Point spread betting is the most common type of bet in NBA basketball betting, just like in NCAA. However, the point spreads in NBA games tend to be much larger than in college games, reflecting the greater parity in college basketball.

2. Moneyline: Moneyline bets are also available in NBA basketball betting, just like in NCAA. The odds for moneyline bets in NBA games are typically more expensive than in college games, reflecting the greater disparity between the best and worst teams in the NBA.

3. Totals: Totals bets are also available in NBA basketball betting, just like in NCAA. The total points scored in NBA games tend to be higher than in college games, so the totals are often set at higher numbers than in college basketball.

4. Halftime Betting: Halftime bets are also available in NBA basketball betting, just like in NCAA. These bets are made during halftime and are based on the score of the game at that point.

In NCAA basketball and NBA, a basketball bet is considered official if the game goes at least the following durations:

NCAA Basketball: In NCAA basketball, a basketball bet is considered official if the game goes at least 35 minutes (i.e. the game must complete at least 35 minutes of playing time, which includes halftime). If the game is abandoned or postponed before the 35-minute mark, all bets will be refunded.

NBA: In NBA, a basketball bet is considered official if the game goes at least 43 minutes (i.e. the game must complete at least 43 minutes of playing time, which includes halftime). If the game is abandoned or postponed before the 43-minute mark, all bets will be refunded.

It’s important to note that if the game is postponed and rescheduled to a later date, the bet will still be considered valid as long as it meets the above criteria. However, if the game is suspended and not resumed within a certain time frame, the bet will be voided and refunded. It’s always a good idea to check the specific sportsbook’s rules and regulations regarding basketball betting to ensure you understand all the terms and conditions.
