It’s worth noting that in the 2019 America East Men’s Basketball Tournament, the No. 6 seed University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) defeated the No. 1 seed Vermont in the quarterfinals, which was considered one of the biggest upsets in the conference’s history. UMBC went on to win the tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, where they famously upset the No. 1 overall seed Virginia in the first round, becoming the first No. 16 seed to ever defeat a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
