Most Popular Types of Bets on the March Madness Tournament

March Madness is one of the most popular sporting events in the United States, and with it comes a flurry of betting activity. Here are some of the most popular bets during the tournament:

Point spread: This is the most common type of bet in basketball, and it involves betting on which team will win by a certain margin.

Moneyline: This bet is simply a wager on which team will win the game outright, with no point spread involved.

Over/Under: This bet involves wagering on whether the total number of points scored in a game will be over or under a certain amount.

Futures: Before the tournament begins, you can place a bet on which team you think will win the championship.

Parlays: This type of bet involves combining multiple bets into one, with the potential for a higher payout if all of the bets are successful.

Prop bets: These are bets on specific events or occurrences within a game, such as which player will score the first basket or how many points a certain player will score.

The biggest underdog of all time to win the March Madness Tournament is considered to be the 1985 Villanova Wildcats. They were the #8 seed in the Southeast region and faced off against the heavily favored #1 seed Georgetown Hoyas, who were led by future NBA Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing. Despite the odds against them, Villanova played a near-perfect game and pulled off a stunning 66-64 victory to win the championship.

The Wildcats’ victory over the Hoyas is still considered one of the greatest upsets in sports history, and it demonstrated the unpredictability and excitement that make March Madness such a thrilling event.

It is also known as the “Perfect Game” because the Wildcats had to play perfect basketball to beat their opennent.  Thought it should be noted they turned the ball over 17 times and were an 8 point underdog to the top ranked Hoyas.

Since the 1985 Villanova Wildcats, the next lowest ranked team to win the March Madness Tournament is the 2014 UConn Huskies. They were the #7 seed in the East region and faced off against the #8 seed Kentucky Wildcats in the championship game. UConn won the game 60-54 to secure their fourth national championship.

While not as big of an upset as Villanova’s victory in 1985, the 2014 UConn team still defied expectations and overcame a challenging path to the championship. They defeated #2 seed Villanova, #3 seed Iowa State, #4 seed Michigan State, #1 seed Florida, and finally #8 seed Kentucky to win the title.

The 1985 Villanova Wildcats team that won the NCAA basketball championship did not produce any notable NBA players. However, the team was coached by Rollie Massimino, who was a well-respected college basketball coach and led the Wildcats to several successful seasons.

The 1985 Villanova team was known for their disciplined and efficient style of play, as well as their ability to execute Massimino’s game plan to perfection. The team was led by a balanced group of players who worked well together and played unselfishly on both ends of the court.
